Birdie Boone is a studio potter and independent ceramics educator. Her work is subtle, sensory, and expressive–made for daily use and contemplation. Born in West Virginia, Boone grew up in rural, southwestern Virginia and in the city of San Francisco. She holds an AB in studio art from The College of William & Mary (Williamsburg, VA) and an MFA in artisanry/ceramics from the University of Massachusetts (Dartmouth). Her teaching experience includes introductory to advanced level college courses in ceramics and 3D media, community courses, and workshops at craft schools. Her residency experiences include a long-term artist-in-residence at the Archie Bray Foundation from 2007 to 2009, a semester at The Pottery Workshop in Jingdezhen, China with West Virginia University (Morgantown) in 2017, and one month at Starworks in Star,NC. In 2023, she became a mentor with Clay Cohorts and continues to lead workshops that explore hand building techniques, the manipulation of ceramic materials, and ceramics philosophies and aesthetics.
