Collection: Kim Murton

Vancouver, WA

Kim Murton is a ceramic artist and illustrator living in Vancouver, WA. She studied ceramics and animation at School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and printmaking and film at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art (New York). Murton worked in the animation industry in New York, Denver, and Portland before deciding to re-visit clay by attending Oregon School of Art and Craft (Portland). She has been bouncing back and forth between clay, animation, and illustration ever since. Murton uses both terracotta clay and mid-range porcelain to make functional and sculptural pieces. She combines illustrating with clay by painting on handbuilt and wheel-thrown cups and plates. Her sculptures are painted with colored slips. All of her work is inspired by Pre-Columbian art and contemporary comics.
